THERMIT WELDING OF RAILS


PRINCIPLE :


Thermit Welding is a fusion welding process, based on Alumino-thermy which uses a chemical reaction for producing the hot liquid alloy.

This is based on widely practiced unique THERMIT PROCESS which involves a highly EXOTHERMIC reaction between Iron Oxide and Aluminium giving rise to enormous heat producing molten metal of the desired chemistry.


REACTION : Fe2 O3 + 2 Al = 2 Fe + Al2 O3 + 181.5 K. Cal of Heat


The hot molten metal is allowed to be poured into suitable mould encapsulating the pre-heated affected parts to be welded, thus the metallurgically bonded sound joint.

Our Thermit Portions for A.T. welding of rails are approved by RDSO/Lucknow, (Ministry of Indian Railways) for manufacture and rail welding for following techniques:


  • 52 KG. (75 UTS) rails with Air-Petrol Pre-heating
  • 90 R (72 UTS) rails with Air-Petrol Pre-heating
  • 52 KG. (90 UTS) rails with compressed Air-Petrol pre-heating using three pc. Mould
  • 60 KG. (90 UTS) rails with compressed Air-LPG
  • Pre-heating using three pc.mould and auto thimble 60Kg (90 UTS) rails with compressed Air-LPG pre-heating using three pc. Mould and auto Thimble

Technique under approval of R.D.S.O. for manufacturing of A.T. Portions and Thermit welding of rails


Out thermit portions for A.T. welding of rails are under final field trails by RDSO/Lucknow, (Ministry of Indian Railways) after clearance of lab evaluation and fatigue tests for manufacture and rail welding for following techniques:

  • 52Kg. (90 UTS) rails with compressed Air-LPG pre-heating using SINGLE SHOT CRUCIBLE
  • 60Kg. (90 UTS) rails with compressed Air-LPG pre-heating using SINGLE SHOT CRUCIBLE
